Louise Rogers Sumner
I live in Arlington, Virginia with my three sons. I have always photographed them, and our life together.
I began this business with my heirloom black-and-whites. I love making portraits of children. My goal is to capture the authentic look of any child, to catch the look that you will see when they are 25 and come home for the holidays.
A friend of my mother’s once sent over several photographs of herself as a child, taken in the 1950s, for me to see. They were charming yet beautiful, and showed the girl just as she was. My mom’s friend said, “I didn’t even realize the photographer was taking my picture. We just had a conversation.” When you come to my studio, I hope to have a conversation with your child, and to gain their trust, so that I can show their essence: how they are today, at three or eight or twelve, and also how they will be.
I also love photographing families, and it is a special honor to watch your family grow as I photograph you over the years. I hope that the photos we make together will become treasured family heirlooms also!
Thank you for the privilege of photographing your beautiful children and families!
